The Group attaches great importance to its extra-financial ratings and strives to obtain ratings that best reflect its CSR actions by ensuring the quality and transparency of the data provided.

Every year, Societe Generale’s CSR achievements are subject to extra-financial reporting, verified by statutory auditors. The Group’s CSR approach is also evaluated by extra-financial ratings agencies. These ratings help the bank to benchmark its efforts compared to its peers.

What are extra-financial ratings?

The extra-financial rating is an evaluation of the company based on criteria other than just financial performance: respect for the environment, social and societal values, etc.

In 2018, our extra-financial rating on economic, environmental and social measures was higher than the average for the banking sector, allowing Societe Generale to be in the first quartile of the rankings mentioned below.

A key player in sustainable development

Societe Generale is currently included in the main sustainability indices:

  • DJSI (World and Europe)
  • FSTE4Good (World and Europe)
  • Euronext Vigeo (France, Europe and Eurozone)
  • 4 of the STOXX ESG Leaders Indices
  • MSCI Low Carbon Leaders Index

It is also present in a significant number of SRI (Socially Responsible Investment) funds.

Reporting methodology

Every year, Societe Generale performs a quantitative evaluation of its CSR key performance indicators. The CSR and Sustainable Development department is responsible for collecting data in the following fields: governance, corporate, social, environment and sponsorship. More than 1,200 contributors take part in collecting this data every year using the Planethic Reporting system, established in each of the Group’s subsidiaries.
